One of our co-founder’s stories starts in Brazil with Dr. Haerishton Lima, who grew up witnessing his father practising veterinary medicine in Vitória, capital of ES Brazil. He decided to follow in his footsteps, and his first job was working in his dad’s veterinary clinic and in nonprofit wildlife centres. He then moved to Canada as a veterinary technician and worked through his validation process to become a DVM, following in his father’s footsteps in the path towards ownership.
In 2008, Dr. Lima met and married his wife Vera where an unstoppable partnership was formed.
Vera, who studied Business and Foreign Policy, sought to work in a place that cultivated fairness, teamwork and excellence. She would later become the Hospital Administer to his Medical Director when they purchased their first hospitals in 2015.
Partners in all things, Herishton and Vera have learned the importance of a balanced veterinary practice. Dr. Lima’s medical background has ensured that Canadian Veterinary Hospital Management practices are run with the most up-to-date medical protocols and current standards in veterinary medicine; Vera’s own background in studying international relations has ensured that CVHM has promoted a positive, non-toxic work environment, with a team-centric approach.
The veterinary field continues to Grow and Adapt.
The veterinary field has continued to grow and adapt over recent years, however not every facet of growth has been positive. Compassion fatigue and exhaustion have led to an upward trend in burnout and even suicide with many veterinary professionals left feeling under-appreciated, posing retention and recruitment challenges. Noticing this in our own community has caused us to implement new policies that have shared each founder’s vision and brought job satisfaction and optimism back to the pet health profession.
CVHM was founded with this in mind, to bring balance to medical directors, practice owners, and staff, consequently aiding the overall wellness of each practice from the inside out.
Today, Canadian Veterinary Hospital Management has partnered and teamed up with three different veterinary hospitals, and offers Management and HR services to veterinarians that share this vision.
